LIGHT MATTERS

Beyond sweating it out with us in the studio we wanted to provide more ideas on bringing wellness into your routine. Because we like you!

Simply put, light matters. It matters as much as your diet, sleep and exercise when it comes to your health.

If skincare products can soak into your bloodstream so effortlessly, it’s easy to see that light is also absorbed by the body. This isn’t a lecture on wearing your sunscreen though – we’re talking about blue light, where it comes from, and when you want it.

Blue Light

Blue light has a dirty reputation – but, the truth is it helps humans regulate circadian rhythm, which supports consistent restorative sleep. And we all know sleep matters. Knowing how to control your blue light exposure is crucial if you want to reap its benefits.

The sun itself is a source of blue light, and here in San Diego, we’re fortunate to have an abundance of sunlight. Think about letting the sun guide your schedule a little bit more.  Other sources of blue light are not as natural; things like screens (iPhones, computers, TVs, the list goes on and on), electronic devices (even the clock on your microwave is emitting blue light), and this is where the trouble begins. When our eyes absorb artificial “junk” light, they send a signal to the brain that it is still daytime which might not be ideal at 11 pm.

By now you likely made the connection that it’s best to stay away from blue light after sunset.

So, what adjustements can we make to create balance when it comes to blue light exposure?
